Sonata, for Viola and Piano

Levy's compositional style firmly believed in tonality and was constantly on the search for new ways of expression. He had a preference for slightly varied repetitions of motifs, the frequent use of modal harmonies and a certain archaism. With four movements and a playing time of about 20 minutes, it is a «great» work, and by its musical content certainly one of the most important works of the 20th century for this instrumentation.
