Informationen
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart composed his Sonata in B-flat major K. 378 in Salzburg in early 1779. In contrast to the two-movement violin sonatas from his first series of works in this genre (K. 301 - 306), composed during his journey to Mannheim and Paris, this Sonata is considerably more expansive, and has a slow middle movement in between its two swift out movements. Mozart here established a sequence of movements - the same that he employed in his piano concertos - that he continued to use without exception in his subsequent chamber music with piano. After moving to Vienna in 1781, Mozart composed four further violin sonatas (K. 376, 377, 379 and 380). He published them with Artaria of Vienna in 1781 as his «Opus II», together with the present B-flat major Sonata and the C-major Sonata (K. 296) that he had composed in Mannheim.
