44th International Viola Congress |
September 1-5, 2017
Wellington, New Zealand
Dear friends of the viola worldwide,
I am writing to all members of the International Viola Society, National Viola Society Section Heads, personal friends and special friends of the viola with an appeal for assistance.
We have 8 days left to reach our Boosted campaign target of $5,000. So far we have 20 donors and have raised $2,780 which is 55% of the total.
Donations from my personal contacts will not be enough on their own to reach our target so I am also appealing to everyone to promote this campaign heavily amongst personal and social media networks. A Share of the Boosted website on everyone’s Facebook page would be one very effective way to do this.
The programme that is evolving is incredibly exciting with many distinguished violists from 16 different countries represented.
We have the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra on board for September 4 to give a once-in-a-lifetime concert featuring four viola concertos (two world premieres) and Brett Dean’s Testament for 12 violas.
The soloists are:
Anna Serova (Russia-Italy) playing Boris Pigovat’s "Poem of Dawn" and Robert Molinelli’s “Lady Walton’s Garden” (world premiere)
Roger Myers (Austin, Texas) playing Schumann’s “Marchenbilder” (live world premiere of the orchestral version - recently recorded with the London Symphony Orchestra)
Roger Benedict (Sydney, Australia) performing Walton’s Viola Concerto
On September 5 our Attorney General, Chris Finlayson will host a Congress Banquet Dinner at Parliament.
Even if you can’t personally attend the congress your donation will help enable us to live stream the highlights worldwide so you will not miss out.
Best wishes
Donald Maurice
