Johannes Volker Schmidt, born in 1976 in Fulda, studied school music with a major in piano and historical interpretation practice with a major in harpsichord/fortepiano at the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts, as well as musicology and German studies at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt and at the University of Vienna. In 1998 he received a scholarship from the Richard Wagner Scholarship Foundation. From 2003 to 2007, he was a research assistant at the Musicology Department of the University of Music in Frankfurt, Germany. From 2004 to 2018 he was an adjunct lecturer at the Musikhochschule. In 2008, he received his doctorate with a thesis on the Viennese composer Hans Rott (1858-1884). In 2010, he passed the 2nd state examination. He is currently a senior lecturer at the humanistic Heinrich-von-Gagern-Gymnasium in Frankfurt. As a musicologist, he is particularly committed to the rediscovery of forgotten composers such as Franz Krenn (1816-1897), Joseph Schuster (1748-1812), Hugo Staehle (1826-1848) and August Winding (1835-1899). In this connection, there was close cooperation, especially with the Berlin publishing house Ries & Erler. Further editions were published by the publishers Ortus, Butz, Olms and HeBu.
