Bernhard Päuler was born on July 28, 1932, the son of an organist in Emden, East Frisia, Germany. After his primary and high school years, he completed an apprenticeship as a typesetter in Osnabrück. His professional career led him to positions in Frankfurt, Stuttgart and Düsseldorf and finally to Zurich, where he worked as a proofreader in 1955. From 1966 on, Päuler worked independently for various publishing houses in Germany and abroad and was involved in the production of sheet music and music books.
